I walked around the small city of Jableh, by the coast. At almost every street corner, a man waved me into his shop and gave me something for free, just because I was a visitor. I received drinks, snacks, a bottle of water, a cup of coffee, a drive around the city and kebabs for dinner.
In London, I felt the discomfort of living inside myself. In Syria, I had got used to smiling at people as I walked down the streets.
